THE FIRST PEOPLE OF THE CONEJO VALLEY

Learn about the indigenous people of the Conejo Valley, the mitsqanaqa’n (Ventureño) Chumash people. Barbara Tejada, Cultural Resource Program Manager for California State Parks and board chair of the Chumash Indian Museum in Thousand Oaks, will talk about the people and the places who first called this valley home and continue their traditions today.

PRESIDENT REAGAN’S 113TH BIRTHDAY

Please join us at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library as we pay tribute to President Reagan on the anniversary of his 113th birthday. The Commanding General at United States Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton will conduct the ceremony, which includes a color guard, chaplain, a brass quintet, a 21-gun salute, the placing of an official White House wreath on President Reagan’s grave site and keynote remarks by former President of Poland, Lech Walesa, a man who, like Ronald Reagan, recognized the important of human rights, democracy, and freedom. The leader of the Solidarity movement, Lech Walesa’s role in the Cold War helped defeat the Soviet Union.

DRIP IRRIGATION AT CALLEGUAS MWD           

Learn tips and techniques and participate in a hands-on drip irrigation experience you can use in the home landscape. The class is taught by Ventura County Master Gardeners and sponsored by Calleguas Municipal Water District. The terrain may be bumpy, so wear closed-toe shoes. Bring your own water and chair. Restroom is available.

MALIBU CREEK STATE PARK ‘WELCOME WALKS’

Join a Malibu Creek docent for an easy nature walk along the creek and under the oaks.We’ll talk about the animals and plants found in the mountains, plus the park’s unique history, including its movie-making past. There’s something for everyone in this 2 1/2-hour walk, whether you are a first-time visitor or a seasoned park enthusiast. Families are welcome. We’ll meet in the park’s Main Trailhead Parking Lot by the restrooms.

COST: Free, but there is a parking fee – $3 an hour, $12 maximum.

PRESIDENTS’ DAY CELEBRATION

Celebrate our Founding Fathers during our 31st Annual Presidents’ Day Celebration at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library and Museum. This celebration includes fun for the whole family, including crafts, musical entertainment, storytelling, and presidential and first lady look-alikes. Take advantage of the spectacular performance by the Doo-Wah Riders and Los Angeles Police Concert Band.
