The average price of unleaded fuel in the Conejo Valley at press time was $5.45, a modest 24-cent decrease from the Guardian’s July survey and a 93-cent decrease since the June survey.
Currently, the lowest priced fuel is found at ARCO, 600 Moorpark Rd, near the Janss Mall. A gallon of regular gas was $5.15 with cash.
The highest priced regular gas is found at the Chevron on 518 Rancho Conejo Blvd at the corner of Hillcrest Dr. Regular costs $5.75.
The highest premium gas ($5.94) is at the Chevron on 2290 Borchard Rd and Michael Dr.
Diesel prices range from a low of $5.99 at Sam’s Fuel, 3050 E. Thousand Oaks Blvd., to $6.65 at the Chevron on 2870 Camino Dos Rios. The state average for diesel is $6.23, down 37 cents from July and down 76 cents from a high of $6.99 in June. Diesel prices are still up $1.85 from a year ago and up from $3.37 back in August 2020.
Despite the record-high gas prices, California legislators rejected a proposal by Assemblyman Kevin Kiley (R-6) in March to suspend the annual gas tax increase scheduled for July 1 by six months. Another bipartisan proposal that failed in April called for a one-year suspension of the tax. Legislators opted to dip into the state’s budget surplus to replace the tax revenue.
Drivers can reference online sites like GasBuddy.com or Gasprices.AAA.com, where users update prices regularly. According to AAA, the national average price is currently $3.94, down from $4.41 in July and a high of $4.94 in June.
California tops all states with a current average price of $5.34, down from $5.79 in July and a high of $6.36 in June, but still an increase of $0.47 from a year ago and still up $2.12 from August 2020, when the state average was $3.22.
