I have four children in Ventura County public schools, ages twelve to twenty. One in middle school, two in high school and another in community college. Each of my children is in special education. I am running because I believe our schools have lost their way and are in desperate need of a parent’s voice and commonsense leadership. I believe our schools have lost their vision for the very reason they have been entrusted, which is to educate our children with quality, unbiased education that focuses on the fundamentals of reading, writing and math. Furthermore, I believe I would be a good public servant for this position because I am a parent whose children are in the public schools experiencing the policies in real time, and I understand the issues and the impacts these policies are having on the students.

The first and most pressing issue would be to focus on the learning losses that occurred during the excessive shutdown. To center attention and resources on quality education of the fundamentals of reading, writing and math for all students. Second, to get politics and divisive instruction out of the classroom. No curriculum should focus on skin color, sexuality or gender, as this can burden and harm children. Third, provide accountability for the students and community. My 3 pillars for solving these problems are:

Parents’ Voice – Parental input is essential to our children’s education and well-being. I believe during the lockdown, it was lost. As an educator and a parent, I understand the respect that needs to happen between the educators and the parents. Let’s stay in our lanes and respect the delicate balance rather than overstepping and disrupting the parent/child relationship.

Common Sense – I am a mother of five. All are in special education, and four are in Ventura County public schools. The progressive political ideology being taught in today’s classrooms has a negative effect on my children every day. We need to get back to the fundamentals of reading, writing, math and common sense leadership. This will better equip and prepare our children for a productive, successful future.

Children First – The role of the Board of Education is to provide a quality education for all our children. Our educational system in California has lost its way. Our current system is serving special interest groups and political ideologies at the expense of our children and their childhoods. We need to focus on our children first and help them to reach their full potential in life.

The County Board of Education has not stood up to the State and fought against disastrous transgender, DEI and race theory ideologies. Our current county board has gone as far as paying for teacher and faculty training for each of these destructive ideologies. The board has not been held accountable for our failing schools and excessive shutdown, and the learning loss that has occurred as a result.

The present leadership has done well with advocating for resources and providing many vocational/training programs for higher learning within the community.

I am a Christian and proud Hispanic American. I am a wife of 23 years to Daniel Sandoval, a mother of five, a grandmother and a licensed teacher with classroom experience. I am active in our community as a Sunday school teacher for youth and a leader of a support group for women. I love my family, my country and my community.

My Vision is to be a parental voice on the board that focuses on children first.

My Goal is to be an advocate for common sense educational and fiscal policy.
